My First Easter Basket

Carolaeaster_2On Friday, March 21st, some of my workmates gave me as a surprise gift: an Easter Basket! It was a nice surprise and a very special gift for me because I have never received a gift like that before. In Costa Rica, my country of origin, it is not a tradition to give Easter Baskets to your family and friends. Easter in Costa Rica is mainly a religious event and is focused in the Catholic traditions. For example, most people don’t eat red meat during the entire week; every neighborhood has parades where there are actors representing every stage of Easter; most businesses are closed from Wednesday until Sunday; and many people go to church during those days.

Over the Pond

If you’ve ever spent any time in the Ohio River valley in winter, you will understand the concept of  “dreary.” Surely meteorological students worldwide swarm to this area to study the true nature of overcast skies. Children of this cheerless winter world grow up with a resilient nature, maintaining a buoyancy of spirit when lesser persons might whither. But even for seasoned veterans, sometimes the bleakness becomes crucible; set to test the mettle of our most hardy souls.

Wednesday, February 6th was a typical gloomy day, strung onto the end of a long series of other typical gloomy days. We were gathered aroundRainbow_2 the meeting table discussing new catalog covers, when our attention was arrested by the window view of a large crane wading in our pond. Distracted by its unusual size, we all felt compelled to observe and remark upon this bird at excessive length. Engaged thus, we were soon awestruck when something else appeared; something pregnant with the promise of radiant days and the end of seasonal doldrums. A vast and brilliant rainbow had suddenly materialized over the building next door to ours. CARSON wrappedhersheys.com photographer Pam Bottles was quick on the draw and captured this image from our back patio. Unfortunately, the bustle at the door frightened our fine feathered friend; but he’ll probably be back long before we get another shot at an image like this.

Counting the Ways

Customer service at CARSON wrappedhersheys.com is very important to us, you may be glad to hear.  As a company we are dedicated to our customers' complete satisfaction; and we have quite a few ways we show this behind the scenes as well as the marvelous candy bar favors we ship worldwide, week in and week out.

Phonecenter One thing that has always impressed upon me working here is the way we scrutinize each order that comes in via the website to see if the customer’s information is exactly how they want it to appear on the wrappers.  It is not unheard of for a customer to make a typo whilst placing the order. We check and recheck the personalization and then call if we have the slightest inclination the order could be wrong, ruining the favors for a surprise birthday party, or devastating a bride on her big day, for example.

We also check to see the time in transit to each state to save our customers money; and we all know that saving money can never be a bad thing. We actively look for destination and the shipping option chosen by our customers. I have had many a phone call from a puzzled customer wondering why their order is shipping with UPS Ground, when they know full well they chose 2nd Day Air; only for me to explain we wanted to save them some money.

Everyday we check the UPS exception report and proactively call the customer to Ups_truck_4advise them of the status of their order when UPS is having an issue making delivery.  It can be simply that nobody was home, or UPS is having address complications. We see this as very important, and make the necessary calls or emails to get our customers' packages in their hands. This becomes especially important when we have checked the order to see the event date is imminent.

These are just a few of the ways we strive daily to serve our customers best. And rest assured, we are always searching for new ways to attain even higher standards of customer service!

Luck of the Irish

Leprachaun Here at CARSON wrappedhersheys.com we try to celebrate as many of the holidays as we can. On St. Patrick's Day this year everyone in the office was spotted with either green shirts, scarfs or even those little shamrock headbands on. There were some other things that kept the Patty Day celebration going.

One employee, Sylvia Thornburg, showcased the artwork of her niece that was created 15 years ago. She made a "Wee Little Leprechaun" pin out of fimo clay. This little leprechaun was a great addition to our CARSON family for the day.

There was also a little treat that was brought to us by Dee Stammer. She brought in mini cupcakes. You had the choice of white or chocolate cake with a pile of green frosting topped with sprinkles. Even though I'm not a huge fan of frosting, I sure did love those cupcakes. I had to hold myself back to only eat one. All in all, I think ye was a terrific day.

Fundraiser Thanks

Cise1 My mom, Carol Stevie, is the director of the Catholic Inner-City Schools Education Fund, or CISE, which raises money for scholarships for Catholic schools in poor neighborhoods of Cincinnati. This year they raised over $3 million for the Catholic Inner-City schools! It takes a lot of hard work to raise that much money, so as a thank you, she ordered some Thanks A Million bars for all the volunteers that had helped with the 2007 CISE Campaign. Cise2
A party was held on March 6th at the Queen City Club where they handed out goodie bags, which included the Thanks A Million bars. They were a big hit with everyone!

Gail's Gorilla Surprise

Hi, it's me, Gail. I got to spend the Big 6-0 with the CARSON gang.

My work space, and boy do I have a really Big Space, was decked out.  I was amazed with all the decorations when I walked in that morning.  Then just before noon an Eastern Onion singing telegram was delivered by a singing and dancing "Gorilla" by the name of George!  He even had red and black balloons that matched my clothes (not sure how he managed to do that).  George even got me up to dance (a little).  The best part was that my family and friends were there to see me entertain the gorilla.

There was cake and cupcakes from Scott and Sharon, carrot cake from Jeff, and a "Yorkie" cake from Dee.  Dee knows how much I love my baby (Yorkshire Terrier).  When I got home there were flowers, a steak dinner, even more cake.  In total I received 6 cakes and 4 sets of flowers.  I probably gained 6 pounds from the treats.  It was all worth it for a Totally Great Birthday!

Texas, Barbeque & Chocolate

When a customer asks if we can use their photos to create a special wrapper, the answer is always, "Of course!"  We never know exactly what we might end up receiving but when we opened this customer's photo files we couldn't help but agree that SpawMaxwell does indeed look like one of the best places to work.

Spaxmaxwell

Here's their story:

"SpawMaxwell Company is a commercial General Contractor located in Texas.  The employees at our Houston location have voted SpawMaxwell Company one of the "Best Places to Work"; seven years in a row!  As the 8th year of the competition approached, we wanted to remind employees of the good times we have shared and why SpawMaxwell Company continues to be one of the "Best Places to Work".   We decided that the CARSON Wrapped Hershey Chocolate Bars would be perfect.  The wrapper we designed has pictures taken at our 2008 Annual Barbeque Cook-Off.  Here in Texas, we take our barbeque seriously!  The barbeque cook-off teams set up their booths on our parking lot, and a good time was had by all.  These pictures are two of our employee teams - "Last Chance Saloon" and "Hixsville".   We know the chocolate bars will be a big hit!

Election Fever & More

Over the past few months I've been interested in the Primary Elections taking place throughout our country.  I'm not sure if it's my age (I've just hit the big 4-0) or if I am looking at the current landscape wanting change.  Regardless, it's exciting to see people so compelled to vote.

Almost 4 years ago, we created a Bush/Cheney wrapper and a Kerry/Edwards wrapper.  We kept a tally of the "votes" or most purchases.  Our unofficial poll actually did predict the eventual winner.  We received a lot of good feedback about our fun political wrappers.

Electionwrappers_2

Two months ago, we started working on designs that we could sell online for elections.  The design team researched political signs, buttons, posters and blogs.  But our election collection doesn't stop with Politics...we also included high school offices, homecoming courts and more.  Check out our new category hitting our website in March!

Silent in Texas

Pflugerville We sent a package to Pflugerville, a city in Central Texas located about 15 miles north of the Colorado River. The town was founded by William Bohls in 1860 when he established a general store and post office in his residence. He named the town after Henry Pfluger, who owned land in the area. Pflugerville is home to around 35,000 residents. More importantly, the city has a silent letter in its name. The P in Pflugerville is silent.

I love silent letters. There are so many words that incorporate silent letters. A lot of times you do not think about them unless you are reading them. I will demonstrate some of my favorites in the following sentences. I was eating a gherkin I had retrieved from the cupboard when I began to cough. A crumb was lodged in my throat. I began to kneel and a gnome appeared and put pressure on my diaphragm. Crisis averted. I was in serious debt and started looking at my receipts. Oprah was on TV and it was a week before Christmas. There was no doubt she would be talking to the "psychiatrist" Dr. Phil. I decided to see what my neighbor was doing. He was planning a trip to Ghana. I needed something different and comfortable. A documentary would do. I grabbed my favorite beverage and headed out into the night. I took a wrong turn and ended up in the ghetto. I was looking for a sign but saw a ghost instead. The bright light behind the ghost was a foreigner with a flashlight. I asked him where Lincoln Road was located. He wrote the answer on his wrist. The road was right past those folks. I turned onto Lincoln and headed home to my castle. I took off my clothes and climbed into bed. Tomorrow will be a solemn, autumn night.

A Customer's Experience

The average person typically spends over 2,000 hours at work each year.  On average 50% of all workers are unhappy with their jobs (U.S. Department of Labor Statistics).
I have currently been in customer service with Carson for almost a year now and must say that it has been some of the best spent and most enjoyable 2,000 hours that I have ever had in the working world.   I can’t imagine not loving or being unhappy at this job. At Carson we are committed to exceeding our customer's expectations and partner with each other and our customers daily to enhance their special occasions and promotions.

I have spoken with Jennifer earlier today & had also e-mailed Matt last evening indicating my approval of the wrapper based on our discussions, sight unseen . . . . I just got home, opened my e-mail & am so delighted with the results . . . it definitely exceeds my expectations!

Thank you again to all your staff for their patience and good cheer with my order. I plan to definitely use your services again.  I would be pleased to offer a testimonial to the quality of your product, and the superior, personal customer service provided by your excellent staff --- this is my 2nd order with your company and I have been extremely pleased!

C O'Donnell

One of my responsibilities is to maintain the customer appreciations and testimonials.  Our customer’s invite us into their lives when they call for our assistance.   I can’t express how wonderful an experience it is after getting to know a customer and creating an order for them, when they call back or email in about the success and happiness our product and service has made towards their event. I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to come into their lives and make their events extra special and SWEET!
